Neil Hassinger
A bit about Neil Hassinger...
Professionally:
Sheriff Neil Hassinger brings 38 years of distinguished
service in law enforcement to his position at the helm of
the Medina County Sheriff's Office.
Neil was born in Tiffin, Ohio and began his career in law
enforcement with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, where
he served for more than twenty-eight years. He retired
as a Staff Lieutenant in command of the Cuyahoga
County operations for the Highway Patrol. Sheriff
Hassinger served in many capacities with the Ohio State
Highway Patrol, including executive protection,
investigations, and road patrol. He had the responsibility
of developing and organizing the first urban Highway
Patrol Post in the State of Ohio. Neil also received the
highest award possible from the State of Ohio through
the State Employees’ Suggestion Awards Program.
Neil Hassinger has served as Medina County Sheriff since
January of 1997. Under his leadership, the Medina
County Sheriff’s Office has received highly positive
recognition both statewide and nationally. The Medina
County Jail is one of only four county jails in Ohio to
receive state accreditation and one of only two from
Ohio to receive national recognition on how a jail should
be operated.
Sheriff Hassinger is a graduate of the Southern Police
Institute at the University of Louisville and Tiffin
University. He is a graduate of the National Sheriffs’
Institute, The Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and
the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy. He has also
represented Ohio at a National Conference for Missing &
Exploited Children in Washington, D.C. and recently took
representatives from Medina County to Washington for a
conference which deals with violence in our schools.
Sheriff Hassinger is the ONLY Sheriff in the state of Ohio
to have Crisis Intervention Training certification through
the National Allegiance on Mental Illness. His goal was to
be better prepared to effectively handle the increasing
prevalence of mental illness among the inmate
population.
Personally:
Sheriff Hassinger's commitment to values and ethics so
evident in his professional life also extends to his
personal life. He has been married to his wife, Pat, for
51 years. They have five children and eight
grandchildren.
Neil gives of his time and energy to our community
through hands-on involvement in many public service
and charitable organizations including:
